Introduction
Bexley Churches Housing Association operates a Housing Support Scheme within the borough of Bexley. This is funded by way of a Government grant known as Supporting People, administered via the local authority. For those people who are eligible to receive this housing support, the service is completely free, and can last for anytime up to a maximum of two years.
The main aims of Supporting People are:
- To maximise independent living
- To provide well planned housing related support services
- Support that offers good value and compliments existing care services
- Services that are based on the needs of the individual tenant
The types of support that a client can be offered are as follows:
- Help with managing your home
- Maximising your income and benefits entitlement
- Advice on reducing rent arrears and debts
- Accessing other services e.g. care services provided by Social Services
- Prevent problems that can lead to a stay in hospital, care or homelessness
- Help with moving to independent living for the first time
- Support to enable people to remain in their homes
