Governance
The Chief Executive has delegated powers to run the Association on a day to day basis. That delegation comes from a Board, that is responsible for setting the strategy and monitoring the performance. The Rules state that the Board may contain no more than 12 members. There are currently 7 voluntary members of the Board:
Graham Horton Chairman
Graham joined the Board in June 2005 as the chairman. He has extensive experience at senior level, of financial, human resources and facilities management as well as income generation and company secretarial activities. He was Chair of the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee at Gallions Housing Association. He has an interest in helping those who suffer, or have suffered, from addiction.
Averyl Richards Vice-Chair
Averyl joined the Board in October 2007. She has recently retired after working within the social housing sector for nine years as a company secretary. Prior to working in social housing she was a teacher of business education and information technology in a local secondary school.
Alison Baker
Alison was first co-opted onto the Board in 2000, becoming a shareholder member in 2005. She currently works as the Chief Officer of a local voluntary organisation specialising in providing support to carers, having had previous experience working with people with mental health problems.
Brian Carroll
Brian was appointed to the Board in September 2008. He is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with 30 years experience and currently is Head of Development for a large housing association specialising in rural housing.
Andrea Kilvington
Andrea joined the Board in September 2008. She has a broad range of skills gained through working in private, voluntary and public sector contexts and is keen to ustilise these prositively to provide the best services possible to those who need them most. Andrea is Director of Business and Services with national organisation providing drug treatment services, drug awareness programmes, youth projects and crime prevention iniatives.
Grant Blowers
Grant joined the Board in 2000. He currently works for L&Q Housing Trust in the Neighbourhood Investment Team, working with residents, community groups and other agencies to set up community projects to help residents improve their lives and surroundings whilst accessing external funding. He also deals with regional communications, which encompasses the writing and editing of the L&Q regional publication, Places, writes estate newsletters and organises development launches. He has previously worked for Broomleigh Housing Association and has been a local councillor in Bexley.
James Tulliver
James has been a BECHA tenant for over 20 years. He joined the Board in September 2001. He is a retired accountant, having worked in various industries in a senior management position.
